Spring 1998
WETBEER Splashes the Press

Brighton, Michigan -- WETBEER kicks off the summer of '98 in wet style with the most fun and refreshing suds that you can wrap your sweat-soaked lips around. WETBEER is a brand new beer - the brainchild of Brighton entrepreneur Steve Brown.

WETBEER started as one man's dream to shed the corporate life and take the leap of faith into a business that is so overwhelmed with power and money that he thought he would be a wet fish in a wet pond - his own. The man, Stephen E. Brown, Founder and CEO of WETBEER, Inc.

Six-pack Twenty-two steps up from Main Street Brighton and you will find yourself in the world headquarters of WETBEER. You won't find large brewing vats, a brew master, Clydesdales, August Busch, Peter Stroh or Frank The Talking Lizard. What you will find is a hard working 34-year-old entrepreneur with a dream to take on the big guys, spend time with his wife and children, and retire early.

Steve Brown started his former career at Championship Auto Racing Teams, the Fosters Beer Indycar team, followed by a six-year term as public relations director for Penske Speedways until that fateful late afternoon in Cleveland in 1994. Having put the last journalist out the gate at the Cleveland Grand Prix, Steve sat down in 90-degree heat on an asphalt tarmac, and cracked open a "Dry beer. " "Beer is supposed to be wet," he thought. Get the connection to the name?

Enter the obvious name of the product WETBEER. "Revelations are few and far between, at least they have been in my life, but a beer revelation is something that I thought I should take seriously. So, through some exhaustive research, and yes, plenty of taste testing, I decided to give the beer business a try," said Brown. "T-shirts and hats were the obvious way to get started to see if I could get some enthusiasm behind the product name and, as fast as you can say 'Billy Beer,' I was selling merchandise over the web site www.wetbeer.com but, more importantly, people were demanding a taste of the brew. My basement isn't big enough to brew some homestyle, and my wife was not thirsting to go to Germany to learn how to carry five beer steins in one hand, so I set about looking for a brewery. Enter Gluek Brewing Company from Cold Springs, Minnesota, renamed WETBEER brewery on certain days. A few wet samples later we were printing cool labels with disclaimers and Michigan ten-cent refunds."

Focusing on "Generation Wet," WETBEER is targeted at summer fun activities like boating, beach volleyball, picnics, softball, watersports and much more. "Generation Wet" is fun-loving beer drinkers, ages 21 and up, who can appreciate a unique refreshing beverage without the stuffiness of traditional brews.
